Moab (and Nearby) Resources

This post is a list of resources in and around Moab that will be helpful to campers, it’s a work-in-progress, please comment with any suggestions / additions, thanks!

In Moab

City Market Moab (Kroger store) — Store page. Situated right near the middle of Moab along Highway 191, City Market is a pretty well stocked store, with notable exception being they didn’t stock firewood when I was there in October, 2026. Prices here are a bit higher than other areas but not out of control here, like other places.

Walker Drug Moab — (Pharmacy/store page) I called them after my October 2026 trip to Moab and asked about firewood, they said they sell it but were out at the moment. When they do have it, it’s under $7 a bundle, so not bad for local firewood, given how high prices tend to be in Moab.

Maverick gas station in north Moab — On the way out of town, there’s a Maverick station. Maverick is, let’s just say, not a place to go when you want to save money. When I got firewood there, it was over $9 for a single bundle of firewood, and the discount /deal was to buy two bundles and pay something approaching $17. Meanwhile back home at Smith’s they sell firewood for $5 a bundle, and it’s better firewood. I assume everything at that Maverick is similarly overpriced, try City Market first.

Around Moab

To be completed.

Out of Moab

Chow Hound in Green River (Yelp link) — This isn’t a Moab resource, but if you are heading north out of Moab and west on I-70, take the detour through Green River and stop at Chow Hound. They are really two restaurants in one, there’s two counters and two menus, the right side is the traditional burger shop side, and the left side is the pizza shop side.

While you’re in Green River, you pretty much have to check out the John Wesley Powell River History museum (or use johnwesleypowell.com directly). It’s dedicated to the history of the exploration of the Green and Colorado Rivers by John Wesley Powell and others, including up to the modern day in some of their rotating exhibitions. It’s really a great little museum, last time I checked it was $8 to get in ($25 for families) and you have to arrive by 4pm, they close for admission then, but the museum stays open til 5pm (Tues-Sat).
